The Middle & High School Years thru 21 yrs old

Maren Prep classes provide academic instruction to middle and high school teens with Down syndrome. The curriculum continues to support academic, language, and social skills learning for this specific age group. In keeping with our Always Learning focus, The Maren Fund is excited to expand in this direction–helping teens and parents prepare for adult life.

Grad Group (middle school)

Grad Group is a very popular monthly Friday night meet-up. It’s a great way to support teens with social development and includes a sprinkling of academics. The curriculum varies each year to focus on various topics, including independence, safety, money, etc. The class also schedules several outings during the year. A favorite event is working on purchasing items at the grocery store and then meeting for dinner. Join us for a fun and engaging year!

Cost: $300.00 (materials included)

Club 21 (high school)

Note: Two Locations

Club 21 is designed for high school and post-high school students thru age 21. The monthly classes help prepare students for adult life by focusing on cooking skills and improving vocabulary. This class provides hands-on cooking experience, with teachers guiding students to prepare a full meal, including an entree, side dish, and dessert. Teachers also lead students through academic skills as they relate to the cooking process. Recipes have been designed specifically for Club 21 using simple ingredients and tools to prepare delicious meals. All participants will receive a Club 21 Recipe Book with easy to use visuals and step-by-step instructions.

Club 21 is a great way to promote independence, build confidence, and develop healthy habits. It’s also plenty of fun!

Cost: $300.00
Please note: Class size is limited to enable a hands-on opportunity for all students. However, due to the popularity of this class, this course is now offered at two locations, with the same course times, menus, and teaching methodology at each location. Please select your location when registering (TASK or SLARC).

If your son or daughter is 22 years old or older, please also check out the weekly cooking classes for young adults at SLARC. Thank-you for understanding our size constraints!

Maren Fund Internship

Our interns have become a fun and important part of our Saturday morning Learning Program classes. Interns receive guidance on job skills, working with students in the classroom. They create individual goals and monitor their progress throughout the year. To be eligible, students must commit to regularly attending our Saturday Learning Program class once a month and be a high school student currently enrolled in a Maren Fund class. In order to provide a complete job experience, your son or daughter will submit an application and participate in an interview.

Internship availability is driven by our enrollment size, which means the number of interns needed will be defined by our Learning Program class sizes.

To begin the application process, click the link below.

No cost (Interns will receive materials)

Interns support Saturday morning classes and are assigned to either an 8:30-10:00 or 10:30-12:00 class with an overlapping time for learning.
